The Buzz

Movie news and trailers.
Australia judge rules Simpsons pr0n featuring Bart and Lisa count as child pornography.
If we were to say Bart and Lisa were “born” in 1989 when their show first went on the air (so not even counting the Tracey Ullman years), that would make them legal age, wouldn’t it?

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li trailer
HAY GUISE, let’s do a movie about one of Street Fighter’s most traditional and distinctive characters! And to play her, we’ll get a woman who doesn’t look Chinese (or even Asian of any sort), and dress her nothing like her, and put her hair into a ponytail instead of her distinctive twin buns. It’s not like any fans of the game will notice or anything!

So in short, Kill Bill volume 1.5.

My Asian-dar led me to suspect she was at least part Asian, and further research turns up that she’s in fact part Chinese. At this point in time, I’m more or less resigned to the fact that Hollywood will invariably fail at casting Asian actors and actresses, and for whatever reason most people will not know the difference. Hence why I always was confused by Lucy Liu, who is a rather ugly Chinese actress who somehow was regarded as attractive here in the US.
She was big before Ally McBeal, I think. And I don’t think she’s hawt, but she’s not ugly either. At least she’s managed to land a few roles outside of the dragon lady and/or kunoichi typecast.
Jericho, so maybe she’s partly Chinese; you still had to look it up. Part of the thing about Street Fighter was that the characters were somewhat stereotypes of their respective nations - E Honda, the sumo wrestler; Guile, the blonde soldier in fatigues; Zangief, the burly muscleman - so Chun-li looked almost comically Chinese, with her cheongsam and hair buns. But in this movie, she’s wearing some black get-up and a ponytail. She looks more like Lara Croft than Chun-li.
Heh, I thought the Phone Sex Pranks: Early 90s Slang video linked to from that page was funnier. (NSFW audio…)
