AnRe's dead.

I guess eventually we - the four of us left - are gonna have to stop ignoring the writing on the wall. Clearly it’s been terminal ever since the, er, incident over a year and a half ago. Thanks to everyone who took time out of their day to come back here and post new stuff anyway, but surely there are more interesting places you could be spending your time at this point. Well, me too.

Keep in touch - I still might have some ideas that’ll pan out, though probably not.

Well hell, at least leave some clues as to where you are hanging out these days. I value your input on a wide variety of subjects, AB.

Most of the other places I’ve been going to are deader than this place so recently I broke down and registered at ANN’s forums even though I don’t like the crowds and screaming kids. I’ve found that unlike most large forums (AS), ANN is well moderated and idiots and ill mannered children are ushered out quickly making it a place where you can actually have an intelligent conversation. It works for me, at least it will until they realize that I am one of the idiots and ban me. =0D

If any one is crazy enough to want to stay in touch with me, just pm me… oh wait. Um… Message me at MySpace… No, you’d need to have an account at that crappy place… Well, I doubt it’ll be an issue anyway.

Bummer. Ever since the format switch I didn’t bother to reregister, but I lurk often. The What The thread is my last connection to internet tomfoolery now that I don’t have as much time to waste on the internets. Sad to see it go.

I hope you won’t be offended if I mention it, AB, but you guys are still welcome to visit AnAp if you feel so inclined.

Sad to see it go, considering I’ve been posting since what, 2002? I’ll still be around at AnAp.

There’s still my blarg. There’s also FuKu, though it’s just about as dead. I may or may not give in and start posting at AnAp - I don’t know who anyone over there is anymore.

Aww… sad to see it go. This is probably one of the first forums I started posting at.

FuKu is certainly more dead than this, and AnAp looks more or less the same amount… not sure if I’ll sign up.

Oh, well. :( I’ll miss this place, but personally, I thought the “progression” from a pre-ready, fully featured forum to bare bones forum wasn’t the brightest of ideas. I’m aware that you wanted to use this thing as a learning experience for scripting, AB, but I think it would’ve been better if you had used it on some other site than your most famous of babies, especially with the relatively large community it already had before the switch. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Thanks for reminding me about AnAp, Fata; I totally forgot about it. I was originally reluctant on joining it because it’s a carbon copy of what this site used to be, but considering how the situation has changed, I’ll join you guys now. All it needs now is a community-operated radio and the experience would be complete.

If you decide to restore this place to its former glory, AB, I’ll be waiting, but for now…

Later.

Restoring AnRe to its former glory would be impossible. It formed under a particular set of circumstances; it grew under a particular set of circumstances. Without the initial userbase that the death of the Rev Boards brought, followed by sustained growth and periodic bursts of new members by way of JazzMess, AnRe would have been stillborn. And unless we can figure out some magical way to recreate those circumstances, any attempt at revival would be likewise.

Well. That’s not to say I don’t have ideas… Recently I’ve been toying with how Drupal could be used in a sort of social network system; nothing all-encompassing like Facebook, but something focused and more discussion-oriented. Likely nothing will come of it, but let’s just say I haven’t entirely given up on the idea of building online communities. Let me know if you want to be a guinea pig in any future experiments.

So, it’d be more like evolution than self-destruction? I might give it a shot.

It could be a great place for individual blogs, articles, podcasts (hosted on other servers to save space and money, of course), and the like.

I just remembered, for people who don’t want to bother with AnAp, there’s always AAT, but I don’t remember how to get there.

zimed.net/forums

Funny you should mention that… Zimed.net’s been borked for the last couple of days. EDIT: Never mind, it seems to be back up now.

There’s not much in the way of conversation there anyway. It’s mostly stupid shit.

I still lurk every day. I’ve posted on anre for 6 years now. I’ll miss this board. :/

I’m game. Send me an e-mail if you need a tester at some point.

This was my first forum ever.

Sadness ensues.

This was also my first real forum. I remember lurking for months trying to get myself familiar with the tight community that was. I’d hope that some of you old members (tehkiba, dabigv, gfc, albright) would at least stop by AnAp on occasion if nothing else I’d like to hear some of your opinions or what you are up to these days.

It’s kind of funny, the rev boards were my first forums, and I came to anre from there.

I’d love to see you go further with something like that. As well as the community that would inevitably grow from it.

Wow, this is Nostalgic.

Almost the whole gang is still here, except I don’t see pistol anywhere.

This is mainly a message to Albright; I’m an old user of the Anre-Jazzmess boards from back in the day, and got to wondering if the first userboards I ever frequented were still around. Good to see they are, even if they’ve changed a bit. Anywho, when I was on the old boards, you and a few of the other members had made a bunch of mock-up magic cards with funny text and pictures on them, stuff the mods could just drop when someone was being an idiot. I was wondering if you still had a copy of those files anywhere that you wouldn’t mind transferring to me, just for memory’s sake. If you do, or don’t, would you mind shooting me an e-mail at whoiam82688@juno.com , please? I’ll probably be back here again to see what’s up with you guys, but if not, it’d be cool to have that keepsake.

Thanks for you time.

Find Ytoabn; I think he’s hanging around at the Jazzmess forums. AFAIK, he was in charge of that stuff.

Wasn’t Skittles the person who made them all?

I only have a copy of my last one. If anyone did have the rest it would be Ytoabn.

I almost forgot that the old site archive is still online. Here’s the thread, though it appears that most of the images, at least in the initial posts, are broken now.

Hey y’all. Haven’t been by in a while, but glad to see some are still around. I miss you guys. AnRe was one of my first real forums, though I lurked for a year out of fear of everyone on it. I hope everyones doing okay, I think I’ll lurk around again for a while.

Hi Mitora! It’s nice to know you’re about. Feel free to chime in any time the spirit moves you. I still lurk occasionally over at the other place. There’s a couple of people there I miss although I’m rarely even tempted to say anything to those other bozos because our personalities get along like Menthos and Coke.

I just moved AnRe (and my other Drupal-powered sites) from my old ASmallOrange shared hosting account to my waeome new VPS account, because it’s about time I did something with it. I did some software upgrades while I was at it. Please report any weirdness.
