Hello, I want this forum software. Can I have it?
This “forum software” is Drupal, so yes, you can have it. The list of threads on the front page is generated with Views. A custom theme keeps things looking ugly.
However, it can be tough for the inexperienced to get Drupal to do what you want, and Views has its own learning curve on top of that. I wouldn’t recommend either to a casual forum admin.
Well, it depends on whether it can do what you want just by installing itself and its preprogrammed modules and themes. Finding pre-existing modules that do what you need it to do is sort of a skill in and of itself. If you want to do something new or esoteric, you’ll probably have to write a custom module (or hire someone to do it for you). For example, the AJAXy “quote” feature here was custom programmed by me.
